Yo-yo? Liz’s journey part 2 weight loss- a weighty issue!

Yo-yo

Jodie instructed Liz to maintain a physical activity and diet record for one week to gain insight into what exactly was going into her body and how much energy she was expending. Liz had tried the occasional diet in the past, only to discover how ineffective they’d been. In fact, she felt they had made her put more on. “A classic case of yo-yo dieting,” Jodie outlined. “That’s not what we want.”

This was the first time anyone had asked her to record how much exercise she was doing and what she was eating and it was definitely the first time she had allowed someone to come into the house to look in her fridge! “After this, I want to have a look at what you’re keeping in the fridge at work,” Jodie stated, matter of factly.

“Serious?” replied Liz. “Serious,” said Jodie, breaking into a broad grin. “I need to make sure your work environment is supportive, or whether it’s full of sugar. This is all about a complete overhaul of what you’re currently doing. It’s about getting you to start making healthier choices.”

“Okay.”

“I’m going to show you how to make some simple changes straightaway. That means learning how to read labels and working out how many calories are going into your body and how many are coming out. It’s about getting your body moving again and helping you find time in your schedule to do that.”

“Okay.”

“And then,” added Jodie, “we get into the really cool stuff. What we’re all about is helping you create a total holistic wellness programme, not a quick fix. I’m going to guide you down the path towards that.”

Liz smiled, “Let’s do it.”

With the essential background information compiled, Jodie discovered Liz also had a history of diabetes and heart issues in the family, as well as constantly feeling bloated, tired and stressed. These issues would be addressed along with reducing her weight to a more desirable level.

Jodie immediately started Liz off with a lymphatic drainage, helping reduce the levels of toxins in her body, improving her energy levels and helping offset the feelings of stress in her day to day life.

Why Lymphatic Drainage?

The lymphatic system is part of the body’s circulatory apparatus. Comprised primarily of lymphatic vessels and lymphatic nodes, it has a vitally important role in health maintenance.

The lymphatic system constantly cleanses the soft tissues by evacuating excess fluid and waste products from around the tissue cells, thereby maintaining the health of the soft tissues. The healthy functioning of the lymphatic system can be hindered, or stopped, due to factors such as stress, chemical overload, age, lack of activity or food additives. These factors cause the circulation of fluids and the cleansing process to slow down, in turn compromising the health of the soft tissue environment and opening the way to an increase in physical ailments.

Manual lymphatic therapy uses techniques that naturally stimulate the functioning of the lymphatic system. Gentle, specific and non-invasive hand manoeuvres are used in the therapy.

The modality is based on medical science with regard to the anatomy and functions of the lymphatic system and associated disorders.

Manual lymphatic therapy can be beneficial in the correction of numerous conditions, as well as in preventive health maintenance, such as weight control.
